Purnima Celebration in
Omkarananda Ashram Himalayas
29th July, 2007
Report by Michelle
Guru
Purnima Celebration is an ancient tradition. Purnima, or the full-moon day,
is to commemorate and express love and gratitude towards one's Guru, "the
one who removes darkness".
This sacred day was celebrated on the
29th of July, 2007, in the Omkarananda Ashram Himalayas. It was a very
special occasion to honor our Enlightened Master, Sadgurudev Paramahamsa
Omkarananda Saraswati.
The
celebration began at 7am in the Omkarananda-Kamakshi-Devi Temple. Ashram
Pandits performed one hour of Lord Shiva Puja and Shiva Lingam Abhisheka in
Gurudev Swami Omkarananda's shrine. Later at 8:30 am, Guru Paduka Puja and
Abhisheka were performed in the Omkarananda-Shanta-Durga Mandir by Shri
Swami Vishveshwaranandaji along with the Ashram Pandits.
There was also an initiation of Panditji
Krishna, who was initiated by Divine Master Swamiji Omkarananda Saraswati
and Swami Vishveshwar-ananda Maharaj with the assistance of the Ashram
Priests.
Omkarananda Arati was then performed and
Prasad was distributed and shared with all, at the conclusion of the
celebration.
The eternally Divine Presence of Swamiji
Omkarananda was felt in all hearts and worshipped with affection and
devotion.

60th
Anniversary of Independence Day at
Omkarananda Saraswati Nilayam
15th August, 2007
Report by Mrs. Archana Gairola
15th
August is the most memorable, proud and an unforgettable day in the History
of India. Every person born on this earth cherishes, besides all things, one
thing i.e. FREEDOM. The very thought of 'freedom' enlivens everyone and
boosts them to work altruistically for the progress and development of not
only their own country but also for every individual globally who is
deprived of this right.
Sharing his feelings of freedom, one of
the senior citizens who had witnessed it 60 years ago, describes the day as
'a day of smile and tear - happiness and sorrow - the happiness of acquiring
freedom and the pain of separation from our own kith and kin but still we
felt free from all shackles of bondage.'
Along with lakhs of students celebrating
the day all over the country, the students, teachers and staff of
Omkarananda Saraswati Nilayam, an Inter-College with more than 2200
students, also celebrated this memorable day with fervour of patriotism and
all zeal in the school premises with a variety of entertainment programmes.
Amidst patriotic songs and drum beats the school premises was agog with the
last minute preparations. We felt honoured to have amongst us our most
reverend Shri Swami Vishveshwaranandaji Maharaj, President of Omkarananda
Ashram, Mr. DK Varshney (Principal, Sheetal Biomedical Science College) and
other members of the Ashram and distinguished parents. The day traditionally
began with the unfurling of the flag by Swami Vishveshwaranandaji Maharaj
followed by the National Anthem.
The students of different classes
presented a lively cultural programme which included group songs like Jai
bharati..... yeh mashalein... kantak path...
The most amazing performance was by the
tiny tots of K.G. who presented an Action Song: aao bachchon tumhein
dikhaien jhaki Hindustan ki.... The melodious singing set the tempo of the
children and they were soon seen tapping their feet to the rhythmic songs
sung by the students. The dances represented the states of Punjab (hulle
hullari..) Rajasthan (re kereu..) and a folk dance (sans meri matkani....).
The school captain, Miss Prerna Chamoli,
apprised the audience about the importance of freedom and the progress and
development of the country in the last six decades. She reminded us of the
pledge which Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru had taken then. "We take the pledge of
dedication to India and her people and to the still larger cause of
humanity."
On this very special day recognition was
given to the meritorious students and the dedicated and hard working
teachers. As per the recently set tradition of the school, all the toppers
from Classes Nursery to XII were given cash awards. Even those students who
have secured more than 90% in the ICSE and ISC level were being awarded cash
prizes. Two of our most senior teachers, Mrs. Mridula Chaturvedi and Mrs.
Kiran Taneja, teaching Hindi and Economics respectively, were honoured with
a shawl for giving best performances in their respective subjects at the
ICSE level. It was indeed a proud moment for the school when one of our
budding talented teachers, Dr (Miss) Sunita Sharma, was presented a shawl
for achieving her Doctorate Degree in English.

On the celebration of the 60th
Independence Day, Swami Vishveshwaranandaji Maharaj addressed the august
audience. He highlighted the fact that greatest sacrifice for the freedom
and liberation of our great country has been made by the bold and selfless
attitude of men who laid down their lives. Because of these people today we
can enjoy a peaceful and progressive life. The grace of this freedom should
be used to bring out the maximum possible and dedicate it to the manifold
spirit of our country for an all-round and successful development.
Our honourable Principal Col. (Retd.)
D.L. Sachdeva, in his speech, expressed his heartfelt thanks to Swamiji and
all other distinguished guests for sparing their valuable time and
witnessing the function. He said that his idea behind giving cash prizes to
the toppers would serve as an incentive to the students and make them work
harder. He thanked the parents for entrusting their children in the care of
the school.
On this auspicious day, the students,
teachers and staff of the school took a silent pledge and re-dedicated
themselves to work for the upliftment of the society and the country at
large.
