The Non-Enjoyer within
There is in you a non-enjoyer - in this world
of enjoyment, in this body of enjoyment, in this mind of enjoyment
there is a non-enjoyer. There is a non-suffering person in your
suffering body, someone who is beyond your enjoyment and
suffering. This person you have to know and experience. You have
to be this person! You have to identify yourself with this person.
For in Him there is infinite, absolute perfection. He does not
need to enjoy anything, because He Himself is infinite delight. He
does not need to suffer, because He is beyond every conceivable
suffering. He is all-perfect. This all-perfect person in you you
have to discover, recognize, perceive, experience and constantly
identify yourself with.
You are in search of perfect love.
You will find it nowhere outside this person. You are in search of
perfect joy. You will find it nowhere outside this person in you.
Tat tvam asi. This you are. If you love This, do you need anything
from the world then? - Money? Food? Family? Friendship? Never. You
are beyond everything: Master of life, death and world.
When you know this person in you, you are the greatest Sannyasin,
best Sannyasin, true Sannyasin. It becomes very easy for you to
renounce everything, because you have that, which fills you with
boundless peace and joy, absolute perfection. You go beyond mind,
body, suffering, sorrow, anxiety, worry, disease and death.
This person in you - the ever uninvolved observer of all
experiences and events - is the true Lakshmi. He is Narayana. He
is Light. He is always a witness. He is the Light of lights in
you. He is neither woman nor man. If you think you are a woman or
a man you submit yourself to cheap pleasures and endless misery.
You are neither man nor woman. It is your mind that is involved in
experiences, events, problems, worries and sorrows. In every woman
and man there is this person beyond all gender, full of light,
perfect, uninvolved. To be this person is true life, divine
life, a life in an Ashram. All other forms of life are imperfect
and lead to problems. You think you are lucky, but in this luck
there is the germ of all misery. It creates karma. It binds you to
the body, to mind, to circumstances and conditions, anxiety and
death.
This is the quintessence of every conceivable religious
teaching, the teaching of every Mystic. A true religion, a true
philosophy revolves around this message. All life should revolve
around this message, that is rooted in Truth.
You Are God
God cannot separate Himself from you in spite of his omnipotence!
Why? God is your own true nature, your true face, true body, true
heart, true soul! Never can God separate himself from anyone. He
is the Soul of every soul. It sounds like a contradiction, that an
almighty God is powerless to separate himself from you. But it is
the Truth. The question itself, whether God may be far from you,
is senseless, a stupid question. God is the Soul of your soul, the
Consciousness of your consciousness, the Intelligence of your
intelligence, the Observer in you, the Life of your life. And the
Life of your life is eternal, infinite, absolute, all-perfect.
An all-perfect God dwells in you as You - as your own Self, your
own very nature, your infinite Bliss, which you experience in
deep-sleep unknowingly. You can enjoy this Bliss in deep
meditation, in mystic experience, in spiritual, divine experience.
So great is God's mercy, that He dwells in you always as God,
as your own true Self! God and you cannot be separated. God is
your constant companion, God is your true countenance, your true
life. It is possible to separate you from your nose, from your
ears, from your body, from your mind, even from your subconscious;
but never can you ever be separated from the God within you. God
is you. You are God.
Is that you: your ears, your mind, your
heart - the outer heart of emotions ? Never! The You is the
observer - not that which is involved, but that which observes. It
is the uninvolved absolute perfection in you. Do you suffer as God
and God as you, when your mind or body suffers? No. Within a
suffering body there is a non-suffering, absolute, perfect being.
It is the You in you. It is God in you.
God is your true Self,
true nature, true life. Like bubbles on the surface of the sea,
all that is foreign to you will one day disappear. But God is
never foreign to you. He is yourself. How should you separate
yourself from yourself? Such a thing is never possible. In this
sense God is unable, powerless, to separate Himself from you. He
is you.
When the body dies, you never die, because you are the
immortal God. So great is God's mercy that He installs Himself in
you in all His perfection. When you are reasonable, when you have
developed discrimination power and find out what is foreign to you
and what isn't, what remains with you and what doesn't, what is
eternal and what is transitory, when your heart is calm and pure
so that it sees clearly where your treasure is - the Treasure
above all treasures, the source of true joy, true peace, true
intelligence, true knowledge, true beauty and true freedom ', when
your intelligence is enlightened, you find that you are yourself
the source of all peace and joy - timeless peace and joy - as you
experience in deep-sleep state: a timeless silence and bliss.
It is a shame if we do not seek our happiness here within
ourselves, where God dwells, but chase after fleeting sensual
pleasures and lose our soul, our paradise. Our paradise is within
ourselves! It is the Soul of your soul, and this is the true
source. Here there is joy, not in outer things and people. People,
objects, circumstances and conditions can never give us true joy,
peace and strength, real knowledge and perfection. These values
are within ourselves - in God.
The goal of life is the
unfolding of this Divinity in us, the experience of this Divinity
in us. Nothing pleases God as much as your striving after and
becoming God. You already are God - as we have said before 'you
only have to experience this fact instead of experiencing the
transitory phenomena that are the body, the world and
circumstances. All these are fleeting. All are foreign to you. All
are changing. Nothing belongs to you: your hair, your nose, your
eyes, your hands, your feet, all are foreign to you. Your
possessions, your wealth, your fortune and misfortune, all are
foreign to you and therefore disappear. That which belongs to you
never disappears. That is God.
Dreams come and go. They are
foreign to you. Worlds come and go. They are foreign to you. No
father and no mother belong to us. All things and all persons are
foreign to us. Only God alone remains with us, because He is the
Self of our self. We are this God.
If you are reasonable, if
you are rational, if you are realistic, if you want your life to
be built on truth, reality, not on illusions, then seek this God
that you yourself are. You must become aware of this God-presence
in you. You must experience Him - grow one with Him in your
consciousness and experience. All spiritual exercises, all
exercises of reason lead to this experience. No life is great
unless it seeks and has found God. All religions preach that God
is in you.
Great purity is necessary. Otherwise one pursues
illusions and falls victim to mind and its states. What is the
nature of mind? Affection and disaffection, opposing thoughts and
feelings, suffering, crying, little pleasures and great worries,
all that is mind. One has to discipline mind. One has to attain
moral perfection. One has to overcome all weaknesses and be
consciously rooted in God, in one's true Self, just as one is
rooted in timeless, spaceless peace, joy and perfection during
deep-sleep - a state where desires can never arise, because you
enjoy and are Perfection.
True Happiness is More than Joviality
Does one need merriment to enjoy true happiness? Do you need
fun in deep-sleep, where you enjoy timeless, spaceless, wonderful
happiness? Never. On the other hand, do depressions hinder your
enjoyment of this fantastic true joy in deep-sleep? No.
Human
beings are like animals. Every animal is the slave of joy and
depression, laughter, crying, good and bad feelings, good and bad
thoughts, good and bad actions, and so on. Human beings, like
animals, are slaves of their thoughts and feelings, jealousy,
envy, anger, egoism. Can egoism help sustain true happiness?
Never. You do not need egoism. Without egoism you enjoy true,
boundless, wonderful, everlasting happiness. The lover of the
Divine remains above merriment and egoism and enjoys timeless,
spaceless, true Peace in all situations and conditions, however
challenging they may be.
Anger, pride and vanity enslave common
man, he is lost, and becomes a puppet of moods, and as a result is
suffering. The lover of the Divine has no need of any
merriment or pleasure in the world. He renounces these and
therefore does not know depression, aggression or jealousy either.
All these are laughable, childish, animal affairs. One has to be
Master of one's mind. This is the first requisite for spiritual
life. - No crying or cheap laughter. Laughter and crying mean, you
are a slave of the mind, slave of the states of mind, depression,
cheerfulness, good feelings, bad feelings, body feelings, all
kinds of feelings.
Do you need delicious food to be happy in
deep-sleep? No. Your true being is timeless, everlasting,
all-independent joy. In all situations the true lover of the
Divine dwells in this joy, beyond gaiety and depression. It is a
shame to be depressed. One should immediately counter it with
cheerfulness. First make use of cheerfulness as an antidote. Use a
good thought to get rid of a bad thought. Then drop even the good
thought, and bring into expression the being and nature of the
Divine, which is the absolute goodness that is needed, the
absolute joy, absolute peace and absolute self-mastery that are
needed. This is our true being. Spiritual life means mastery of
oneself - no tears, no stupidities, no depression, no complaints,
no praise, no blame. The opposites collapse. Where there are
opposites there is no peace, no true happiness, no power. Human
beings and animals are the victims and slaves of joy and sorrow,
hatred and love. The lover of the Divine is above this. He does
not lose his head - always calm, always in self-control, always in
the same state, always all-independent. In disease and in death,
in merriment and in happiness, he remains above mind.
Guru is
such a person. He lives in the Light, in that, which you
experience in deep-sleep as all-independent silence, peace and
joy. Silence is not without. Silence is within yourself, as the
deep-sleep state shows. Restlessness is the result of the activity
of the mind. Mind is ever restless, the slave of a continuous flow
of thoughts and feelings - useless thoughts, wrong thoughts,
misguiding thoughts, proud thoughts, vain thoughts, body-related
thoughts. Where is your strength? Where is your freedom? The lover
of the Divine remains above thoughts and feelings. He does not
need joviality or depression. He transcends both. The spiritual
life means to train oneself to be like this, to be rooted in
timeless, all-independent joy, not to ask for joy and pleasure
from the outer world and sense-organs. What is human spoils us,
leads us into misery, worries, sorrow, suffering, anxiety,
sickness and death.
A person, who bases his values on little
pleasures or on a person or an object, looses it. Nothing in this
world can be depended on. However loving a person be, he or she is
not dependable. He or she dies, changes. One should enjoy the
timeless joy that is our true being and remain independent.
Joy
does not derive from a person or an object. What derives from a
person or an object is an illusory, impermanent joy that dulls the
intelligence and reason, a joy that makes a slave and an animal of
a human being.
At all times one should enjoy inner happiness.
This divine joy is always accessible. True happiness is our true
nature. There we are masters. There we are independent. There is
true freedom. No one who is a slave of his own contrasting
feelings is free. As long as one is ruled by mind one is not a
free human being. As long as urges and instincts are present no
one is free. A person in deep-sleep state is free from all
these. But deep-sleep is neither a permanent state, nor is it at
all our real state. We have to experience this everlasting,
all-perfect joy consciously in waking state. That is the goal of
spiritual life.
Be a Lightning Conductor
Make someone a
little present and he feels elated. This is a weakness. One is
enslaved by this state. Never be a slave of praise and recognition
or offence and slander. In the life of a truly God-loving, wise
person there is no space for depression. He is beyond offence and
does not know depression. None of life's circumstances can put him
down. And no circumstances, however heavenly and paradise like, no
possession can elevate him. In both states he remains the same - serene. He is above these opposites.
In society we sometimes
have to deal with silly persons or egoistic persons. If you are
vulnerable you are lost, you are a slave of the offensive word.
The master of an offence remains unhurt. He simply rejects the
insult. He has an inner immune system. No power can overcome it so
easily. Any challenge, any insult, any stroke of fate can be
mastered. Human society is full of all kinds of moods. You should
never allow yourself to be a slave of your own moods or the moods
of another.
Sometimes a person may be cheerful and good-natured
and praise you. You feel great. That is wrong. You have become a
slave of this emotional attack. Be that an agreeable or a damaging
attack, you should remain untouched, like a person in deep-sleep.
Tell a baby: 'You're an idiot!' It laughs. Say the same to a
sleeping person. No reaction. Say the same to a Saint. No
reaction. Tell it to a good, self-disciplined person, who is in
control of himself, a Swami. He is like a lightning conductor. No
effect.
A stroke of fate attacks like a stroke of lightning,
but there is a lightning conductor, that prevents harm. When
lightning hits a tree it burns. When the stroke of defamation hits
a man he burns. It takes him days, weeks, months, a life long to
get over it. He never forgives. He is full of vengeance. One
has to learn to live with bad people as if they were God Himself.
And in deed, they are God Himself, within, in their innermost
being. And we are concerned only with this innermost being, not
with the outer appearance, the outer expressions and moods, the
outer values and gestures. These all should not touch us. Like a
lotus, we have to remain untouched, like a baby, like a sleeping
person. Throw a lotus bud into dirty water, it remains
unpolluted, ever pure. The sewage drips off. One can never really
wet the lotus, neither with dirty, nor with poisonous, nor with
good water. So untouched the lover of the Divine remains, too.
This is the prerequisite for God-experience. When you are filled
with hurt feelings, where is there space for God in you? You
are mad at the insult, you suffer, and thereby you show your
weakness. And who is the winner? The person who insulted you. He
hurt you. You are the slave. He can cheer you with a little
praise, or hurt you with an insult. The lover of the Divine is
above these matters. No space for such experiences. Poverty and
prosperity don't touch him. Good clothes or bad clothes mean
nothing to him. Good circumstances and bad circumstances do not
affect him. He remains unruffled - always Master. The lover of
the Divine is like a lightning conductor. He is the Master of
life, Master of the universe, Master of all states and conditions.
In any company he is happy, at every place he is in the same state
of happiness. Life or death, gain or loss, praise or defamation,
nothing touches him. He is independent.
When you observe
yourself and find you are hurt, that is the time for spiritual
exercises to overcome this state. This sensitivity shows you that
you are weak. In absence of such an indication you would not
become aware of your weakness. An Ashram is a place where we
leave no stone unturned to overcome this limited personality - not
any outer power but this vulnerable human nature.
Everything Is
within Us
In the world we learn - and the world teaches us - that the world is something outside ourselves. We can travel, go
on holidays, enjoy outer things, and so on. In the Ashram we learn
that the world is within us. Where is the world of
dream-state? In sleep you dream of the entire world; you
experience it all so real. It is so alive, you cannot deny it.
Where is this dream world? It is within you. In the same way the
world of waking-state, too, is within us - in our own
consciousness. Our consciousness is infinitely greater than the
entire cosmos, the entire universe, the entire world.
Everything is within us, like in dream-state. In the world you are
seduced by sense-objects. You think, sense-objects can give you
joy. In the Ashram we learn that true joy is within us. We
ourselves are this boundless joy.
In deep-sleep you experience
yourself as timeless, spaceless joy. This is true joy,
all-independent joy, problem-free joy, a joy that does not cause
disease, a joy that is not gained by hard effort but which is
all-independent and perfect. This is our being. This we learn and
experience in the Ashram.
In the world it is said: time and
space are real. Everything goes by time. In the Ashram we learn
that time and space are within us, as in dream, and we are
timeless, as in deep-sleep. This is our true nature. This we have
to know. This we have to pursue. This we have to experience, this
we have to be - a timeless, spaceless, all-perfect being.
All
joy is within. The entire universe is within. There is no
necessity of going anywhere. Going and coming happen in time and
space, while we are beyond these. The world says: 'Come to the
restaurant. Eat and drink. Come to the bar and dance. Gain
possession of this and that, and you will have pleasure!' All
this is proved an illusion in daily life. True peace, true joy and
true perfection are within ourselves. To know, strive after and
experience this wonderful world of absolute perfection is the aim
and purpose of life. This the Ashram teaches us, and it gives us
the opportunity to pursue these absolute values. All these values
are in us. We ourselves are these values.
To all problems there
is but one solution. Worldly people try to solve the problems of
life through objects in life itself - through what is perceived by
the sense organs. But that does not help. The solution to the
problem of life is beyond life; in something else than life.
The solution to the problem of mind lies beyond mind, not in the
things in which mind plays a role. It is always something beyond
life that is the solution of the problems of life.
The
spiritual aspirant has a hold on this 'beyond life'.
Paradoxically, that which is beyond life is in life itself. It is
our own Self. Yet it is beyond us, beyond life, beyond thoughts,
feelings, mind, society - beyond the universe. Only in that
which is beyond life is every conceivable solution to life's every
imaginable problem to be found. There is no other real solution to
the problem of life.
Our own Self is beyond us, and yet,
paradoxically within us.
It is not Sufficient to Read the
Universe by Intellect alone
Reason commits great mistakes, as
has happened to Darwin, Copernicus, Freud and others. The human
being possesses infinite dignity. Man is an image of God - the
eternal Witness. This Witness does not perish. He was before the
universe, and remains after its dissolution. He possesses infinite
dignity. He is an immortal being in a mortal universe. From time
to time he changes his body - which is what you call birth and
death. This is a passing, fleeting phenomenon. It is a finite part
of the infinite Witness that man is in himself.
Copernicus is
right: Yes, the earth is insignificant in this gigantic universe,
even in this galaxy. But he has not realized that it is a
fantastic divine world, where we can live. On this earth there is
the possibility for God-experience, and the earth is therefore
something grand, not an insignificant grain of dust in a boundless
space. It has a fantastic, central spiritual importance, in
furthering the spiritual development of man, in assisting the
unity of man with God and enabling in each finite human being the
experience of his inner Infinitude.
Darwin is wrong. He thinks,
man evolved from ape, our great-grandfather is an ape. Here
Darwin, too, has robbed man of his meaning and has no idea of the
true source of the human soul and human life. The dignity of man
is God's own dignity - boundless, fantastic.
Man's father,
grandfather and great-grandfather is God Himself. Man comes from
God, though his body is from nature. But body comes and goes. Body
is a tiny part of his great, eternal life.
Freud, too, commits
mistakes. He says man is a puppet of the powers in the
unconscious. He says, man is of low nature and base instincts
govern his life. This is not so. This is not the whole of the
story. It is only a tiny passing portion.
Every human being
longs for beauty, love, joy and perfection. Every human being
strives for these and these impulses come from God. God is beauty,
and everyone longs for beauty. God is perfection and everyone
longs for perfection. God is unlimited knowledge and everyone
longs for unlimited knowledge. The pleasures of life satisfy no
one. Everyone one day comes to God. Call your neighbour a
fool. He gets angry and may start a fight in which you loose your
teeth or your head. Why so? Because every human being wants to be
a knowledgeable person. Everyone strives for wisdom. Everyone
plays the role of a learned or knowing person. Why this impulse?
Because it is an impulse of divine nature. Man is a child of
boundless knowledge and wants to return to boundless knowledge. He
does not accept ignorance. Man is nothing but a fantastic
revelation of God Himself. His goal and destiny is God-experience.
Durga - The Power of Transformation
When we attain the grace of
the Divine, the experience of the Value of all values in us
becomes possible. The grace of God has to destroy our ignorance
that covers and veils this Value, hides this Value from our sight
and misleads us, seduces us into sensual pleasures and constantly
directs our attention to the sensory universe, which, to reason
and discernment, is nothing but a valley of tears and sorrow.
This ignorance has to be destroyed by the grace of Durga. Durga
destroys this ignorance and reveals the true value and treasure in
us - this 20-million treasure in us.
Take an example: On the
surface of the ocean there are so many bubbles - big bubbles and
small bubbles. These bubbles suffer from ignorance: They take
themselves to be something different from the ocean. One bubble
seeks friendship with other bubbles and strives for power, joy,
and so on, which it can never find in that, which is limited.
There is no happiness in this. Now, a wave of the ocean, which is
the grace of the Divine Mother, has to come and swallow this
bubble to make it one with the ocean, the boundless, majestic,
wonderful, mighty ocean.
This is what the Divine Mother Durga
does. The wave of Her grace dissolves our ignorance and reveals
our absolute strength, the immortal life, absolute perfection.
You have appreciated the fact, that in every human being there is
this infinite value, the immortal life, an inexhaustible treasure.
We measure the value and estimate the dignity of man by this
reality, from the standpoint of this fact. We call every human
being God, Satchidananda, Truth, eternal life. When you
understand, that you are that, you are a completely different
person. You become fearless and free from problems and enjoy here
and now, in this biologic body, the timeless spaceless peace, joy
and perfection of the Divine.
Therefore we address our
fellow-beings as God-incarnations, Satchidananda, Divinity. We see
and experience it and cash this 20-million cheque in daily life.
Be Established in Infinite Peace
When you sink into deep-sleep
state and enjoy timeless silence, investigate the beginning of
this timeless silence. This timeless silence has not begun with
your deep-sleep state, but has been there always and shall remain.
Even after discarding your body you will enjoy the same timeless
silence. Why? Because your being is independent of the body. The
physical state cannot affect the timeless silence, joy and peace
in you. No cancer can influence it. No atom bomb, no house fire
that burns your body, can ever touch this timeless perfection in
you, this timeless perfect life in you.
The point is, you have
to get out of this bondage of the body. This happens in
deep-sleep. There you are no longer attached to the body, to
possessions, to anxieties, to disease; you are no longer connected
with friends or foes. You are free from all, and yet you are alive - you haven't died. And yet you are happy, though the foes,
problems and disease are still surrounding you. You remain ever
untouched. In the same way as you switch off the mind while
asleep and sink with your entire being into the timeless
stillness, you should do so also in waking-state. How is that
possible? By constant instruction to your mind: 'O mind, you are
not the body, you are not the possessions you have, you are not
your fears and diseases, your cancer, your headache or toothache.
You are not your eatables. You are infinitely more. You are
all-independent fullness. You can hear without ears, you can see
without eyes, you can eat and talk without a tongue.'
Consciousness is all-perfect. This is your being. It is Brahman,
absolute perfection. And the nature of this Brahman is joy,
absolute joy. Where there is absolute joy, your perfection is
absolute, your peace is absolute, your freedom is absolute, your
beauty is absolute. You need no cosmetics. You are born with
absolute beauty. Unborn, imperishable beauty is there in your
heart always, inseparable from you. When you sink into this unborn
beauty you are liberated, you have Brahmananda Consciousness, the
consciousness of infinite life and boundless joy.
Again and
again we have to tell our mind: 'That which is in me is boundless
love, unending joy, infinite silence. I am infinite silence. I am
unending peace. I am boundless love. I am eternal life.' But in
order to prevent the ego from destroying your inner spiritual life
you should avoid saying: 'I am infinite joy,' but rather: 'That
which is within me - the God in me, that which I experience in
deep-sleep as timeless peace and joy - is boundless love and
unending peace. This I am. Therefore I know no fear, no worries
about the future.'
One has to be obsessed by these spiritual
facts, truths, realities. In such a state you do not sin. As long
as you believe you need outward help - joy derived from sense
objects, or peace and silence at a holiday resort - as long as you
think you depend on outer things, you find no peace. You remain
the victim of disease, anxiety, misery and depression.
One has
to get rid of this. In all states - while working, during waking
state, in sleep and dream - one should keep oneself occupied with
the Divine, i.e. with what we essentially are. What are you in
essence? When you think of your body, mind tells you, your body
has such and such height, that it faces such and such problem,
that you are hungry and have to eat, that your legs are paining,
that you have to go to work or to school, and do this and that. Is
this you? No! These are fleeting states of the body that keep
changing and go by.
Are you the body during deep-sleep? No, you
are timeless silence. Are you the body in the state of
God-consciousness, in deep meditation, true meditation? No, you
are timeless joy.
In true meditation you forget everything,
leave everything aside, like in deep-sleep. Everything! You sink
into the wonderful presence of light, love, life, joy and peace.
This peace and joy is Reality. The outer pleasures and pains are
no realities.
Again and again we have to be obsessed with God's
endless love, infinite life and boundless silence, which is there
not only in our deep-sleep, but also outside us, also in others,
in all nature, in the stones, in the trees, in the stars, in the
air, fire and water. It is everywhere within and without. This
timeless stillness is God. God is silence. God alone is eternal
life, and when you sink into God you experience eternal, perfect,
absolute life. The purpose of this passing, fleeting life here on
earth is to take advantage of our time in the body to attain the
permanent, everlasting experience of this Brahmananda.
Think
about it: What in you is real - what is lasting? Not your
thoughts, not your feelings, not your physical states. Yesterday
you were a baby, today you are old, tomorrow you will be gone.
Everything changes. But what is that in you which never changes?
Timeless stillness. It was when you were a baby - as a baby you
slept and experienced it. Has it changed with age? It has never
changed.
Everything within you and around you changes. Fifty
years ago there was no computer, no telefax, no cordless phone.
The world is a river. Every moment the water below your feet is a
different one. Everything keeps changing, changing and passing,
and while it is there, it causes fear and problems. Man wants
a happy life that never changes and unchanging love. But such a
thing does not exist. When Princess Diana weds Prince Charles, she
says, 'Our marriage will be forever happy'. The second or third
day fighting starts, brawls, attempted suicide, scandals, endless
problems. Times change and one cannot hold on to good luck.
But
within you there is bliss, an empire that never changes. And this
never-changing part in you is the true life, the true
intelligence, the true consciousness. In this true life you are
ever the same. Your joy is ever the same. Your peace is ever the
same.
Analyse your deep-sleep. There you experience a state
that is always the same stillness - today, tomorrow, day after
tomorrow. A cancer patient knows the state of deep-sleep and
experiences timeless peace, joy, fearlessness and freedom from
problems. A poor person sleeps and experiences absolute
satisfaction. A rich person experiences the same. A healthy
person, a young person, an old person, a sick person - all
experience the same. This timeless life is always there, in all,
even in stones and trees and birds. And the nature of this
timeless existence is timeless silence. The being of this timeless
existence in all and in everything is called God. It is not mere
life, existence or being, but it is happiness, bliss and peace.
This timeless silence is joy, absolute satisfaction, freedom from
anxiety. It is true freedom. In this state of our soul in
deep-sleep - or in the mystic state, where we consciously
experience this timeless silence, God - there is nothing to limit
our freedom. This is our true being. It is a shame to be
obsessed with sense-objects, emotions and sentiments, and to sell
our soul - this unending perfection - to these sense-objects and
sense-experiences.
We would recommend sense-pleasures, if these
would lead to true happiness, true peace and joy, true life, true
freedom and true love. Is there in these sense-objects true love,
true freedom, freedom from anxiety, inexhaustible strength and
wisdom? No. But all these qualities are your own nature. They are
ever present in the Soul of your soul, which is so subtle that
nothing can limit it. That which is beginningless and endless,
ever the same, alone is reality. Do you have access to this soul?
Yes, you have access every night in deep-sleep, every instant in
meditation, every moment in God-consciousness. In order that
this deadly enemy, the mind, which keeps us separated from this
divine realm within us, may be conquered, we have to employ some
exercises and disciplines. This deadly enemy in us is the cause of
our human state - the limited state of anxieties, problems,
worries, sorrow and misery. This Mahishasura has to be killed. And
here we need the grace of Divine Mother, Mahishasuramardini. Her
