Report by Roopali Tiwari, Teacher
Omkarananda Saraswati Nilayam Inter-College

Flag-hoisting by Swami Vishveshwarananda,
President Omkarananda Ashram Himalayas.
Republic Day is a commemoration of India, acquiring the status of a Sovereign Republic on 26th January 1950, when its constitution came into force.

To mark the importance of this occasion every year a grand celebration is held in our Omkarananda Saraswati Nilayam Inter-College (OSN), a School, having a strength of about 2500 students. We commemorate this day with a plethora of events depicting the huge diversity of language, art, culture, religion etc. in our country.

With every OSNites face shimmering in the shades of the Tricolour and each heart beating with the spirit of patriotic fervour, Omkarananda Saraswati Nilayam celebrated the 64th Republic Day with immense zest and zeal, in which about 600 students of the Junior wing actively participated with enthusiastic performances.

The programme commenced with the unfurling of the National Flag by our Chief Guest, His Holiness Shri Swami Vishveshwaranandaji Maharaj, the President of Omkarananda Ashram, followed by the National Anthem and the march past, a parade by the students, saluting the Tricolour.

The cultural programme began with the "Sarva Dharma Prarthana"  by our little angles of Class I, which signified religious unity in a beautiful manner.

Thereafter our students of Class III enthusiastically performed a colourful mass drill.

A treat to our eyes and ears was given by our tiny tots by their dance performance, "On a Good Ship",  through which they took us to their dreamland.

Vishakha Thapa, a student of Class V, delivered an inspiring and motivational speech as well as a message reminding the students of their rights and responsibilities towards the Nation.

OSN students while singing the school song.

School Head-Boy and Head-Girl of the Junior wing are anchoring the function.

Special dance performance by the younger students.

Excellent Yoga demonstration by OSN Junior students.

Yoga is an approach to health that promotes the harmonious collaboration of the human beings' three components: body, mind and spirit. This was proved by a spectacular display of Yoga by very talented students of classes III to V.

A tribute to Rani Laxmibai was given through a lively and vibrant performance by our class IV students, inspired by a poem of Subhadra Kumari Chauhan, "Jhansi ki Rani".

After this everybody was delighted by an eye-catching and graceful performance to a Bengali song by Class V girl students, wearing beautiful red and white Saris.

A melodious group song, depicting our goal as citizens of our country and a patriotic song by our Class II students were performed.

The School Head-Boy, Saurabh Ranakoti, and the Head-Girl, Ritika Rawat, anchored the whole programme meticulously.

Swami Vishveshwarananda addressing students,

He thanked the Principal for his tireless devotion and keen interest shown in the field of imparting quality education to the children. Swamiji also specially thanked all the Teachers, who had worked hard to make the programme 'THE BEST'.
