perform a special Ganga Puja |
A Visit to The Holy Ganges,
Mahakumbha, 15th March 2010
On the occasion of
'Shahi Snaan' and 'Somawati Amavasya' on 15th
March 2010, our Principal, teachers along with the students of
classes X and XII of Omkarananda Saraswati Nilayam Inter-College
went to the Ganga to offer prayers. It is believed that during
'Samudra Manthan' (churning of the ocean) a few drops of
'Amrit' (nectar of immortality) fell on four regions of
Northern India. They were Haridwar, Ujjain, Nasik and Allahabad.
Every 12 years, Maha-Kumbha is held in one of these places. This
year it is being held in Haridwar, the holy city at the Ganga, on
the feet of the Himalayas.
On this auspicious
day, we all went to the Omkarananda Ghat, Muni-ki-reti, near
Ramjhula. We started from our school at 10.30 a.m. and walked
along the long stretch of the Ganga Ghat. When we reached the
Omkarananda Ghat, all the teachers and students removed their
shoes and sat on the steps of the Ghat.
Our Principal Col
(Retd.) D.L. Sachdeva along with the teachers and students
performed Puja right on the bank of the Ganges.
By 12 o'clock we all
returned to the school.
It was a wonderful
experience and we all enjoyed it, since we could visit the Ganges
during such an auspicious time.
