Yearly Festival of
Sanskrit Chatra Seva Samiti
in Omkarananda Ganga Mata Mandir, 
Triveni Ghat, Rishikesh, on 6th and 7th March 2010

The yearly Festival of Sanskrit Chatra Seva Samiti started on 6th March 2010 in the beautifully renovated Omkarananda-Hall of Omkarananda Ganga Mata Mandir, Triveni Ghat, Rishikesh.

Many Sanskrit-students from different Sanskrit Vidyalayas of Rishikesh, Muni-ki-Reti, Lakshmanjhula, Paramartha Niketan (Pauri) and Haridwar, took part in Competitions, like Sanskrit-Shloka-Recitation-Competition, Sanskrit-Speech-Competition, Yoga-Asana-Competition, etc.

The Students also presented different cultural programmes, highlighting specially the local Garhwali Folk Culture.

On the next day, on 7th March 2010, the grand concluding Function took place along with the Prize-Distribution for the successful Sanskrit Students and Honouring of hard-working and dedicated Sanskrit-Teachers.

The Chairman, presiding over this Function, was Shri Swami Vishveshwarananda Saraswati, President Omkarananda Ashram, who had been so kind to give the beautiful big Omkarananda Hall free of cost for the 2 days Function.

Chief Guest of this function was Shri Matbar Singh Kandari, Minister for Khadi Village Industry and Welfare, Government of Uttarakhand.

Other important guests, gracing the dais, were Shri Premchand Agrawal, MLA, Shrimati Snehlata Sharma, Ex-Chairman Nagarpalika, Rishikesh, Kumari Somashekhari, General Secretary, Omkarananda Ashram Himalayas, and others.

The concluding Function started with the lighting of Deepas by Shri Swami Vishveshwaranandaji, the Minister and others in front of Goddess Saraswati.

Different speakers from the Sanskrit Chatra Seva Samiti informed about the successful participation of many Sanskrit-students of this area in this yearly festival. Many certificates and trophies were distributed by the honourable Guests to the deserving students and their teachers.

In his address to the audience the Minister, Shri Matbar Singh Kandari, was full of praise for the divine appearance of Shri Swami Vishveshwarananda, President of Omkarananda Ashram. He remarked that none of the Sanskrit-Students is having a Tilak on the forehead, whereas Swami Vishveshwarananda, having beautiful and divine Kumkum-Tilak and Vibhuti-stripes on his forehead, wearing Rudraksha- and other holy Malas, along with the traditional Dhoti- Kurta dress, is a shining example, which all Sanskrit-Students should follow.

Kandariji also was astonished to see the beautiful Omkarananda Hall and he was happy to know, that the Sanskrit Seva Samiti is using this hall since many years for their functions. The Minister further praised the good works, done by Omkarananda Ashram through its President Shri Swami Vishveshwarananda for the education in the backward areas of the Garhwal Himalayas.

Swami Vishveshwaranandaji, in his speech, highlighted the importance of Sanskrit and the Vedic Culture, proper pronunciation of the holy Sanskrit Hymns and above all the need for a pure and holy life-style.

In their Vote of Thanks the Speakers of Sanskrit Chatra Seva Samiti highlighted the selfless contribution of Omkarananda Ashram in providing them a hall for their Sanskrit-Library free of cost in Omkarananda Niwas, Muni-ki-Reti. They further expressed their gratitude to the Ashram and Swamiji, for giving them the beautiful, big Omkarananda-Hall, at Triveni Ghat, for their Yearly Festival since many years. They said, that whenever they come to Omkarananda Ashram to visit Swamiji, they feel, they have entered heaven, and they don't like to go away from there.

Even the Minister, Shri Kandariji, again and again expressed his gratitude and admiration to Shri Swami Vishveshwarananda, for all the great works he is doing in the educational, cultural and spiritual field for the upliftment of Garhwal Himalayas. The Minister also was full of praise for Kumari Somashekhari. He appreciated the way she is dressed in typical traditional Indian style with Sari, Tilak and Malas. He also emphasized her skill in speaking the National language Hindi.

Shri Swami Vishveshwaranandaji, Minister Matbar Singh Kandari and other Dignitaries received beautiful mementos from the Leaders of Sanskrit Chatra Seva Samiti.

Everybody enjoyed the wonderful conclusion of the Yearly Festival of the Sanskrit Chatra Seva Samiti in Omkarananda Ganga Mata Mandir, Triveni Ghat, Rishikesh.
