A
Wonderful Musical Evening
On the eve of the
28th March 2010, Patanjala Yoga Kendra hosted an amazing music
concert for the delight of the yoga students and music-lovers in
Omkarananda Ganga Sadan, Muni-ki-reti.
The soul-elevating
concert was rendered by Pt. Barun Kumar Pal. Barun ji plays an
instrument of his own creation, known as Hamsa Veena. Born into a
musical family in Bengal, he was initiated into the musical
tradition by his father Bankim Kumar Pal, a senior sitar player
belonging to the Enayat Khan Gharana. However, his style has been
influenced by many great artists like Pt. Nikhil Banerjee, Pt.
Kartik Kumar and most significantly by his guru Pt. Ravi Shankar.
Barun ji demonstrates tremendous control over his instrument.
Undoubtedly, he has gone through a sustained and vigorous Sadhana
(dedicated practice) under the able guidance of his guru Pt. Ravi
Shankar to achieve his goal. Indeed, his emotional and devoted
music enters slowly into the hearts of the audience and remains
there forever.
