From times immemorial the holy river Ganga
is worshipped with great faith and deep devotion. The sacred
river has found its place in the heart of the true believer in the
Divine, eternally. The great festival of Mahakumbh, which is
going on now, has proved again, how strong the faith of men can
be, since Thousands and Thousands of devotees are taking their
ritual bath, in spite of difficult weather-conditions and so many
other difficulties.
For the true spiritual Seeker the holy
river is GOD. For the Non-Believer the Ganga is
simply water, as described in a beautiful Bhajan.
It is very much in the knowledge of the
Society, that the Ganga is not kept in a way, as it has to be.
Of course there are numerous efforts from different sections, to
keep the Ganga as clean as possible. No doubt, the intention
is very praiseworthy.
Since Ganga is the Center-Point of most of
the religious thinking people, it is quite understandable, that
there is a heavy cry for a clean Ganga.
But now, what's about the other rivers? We
cannot keep one river clean and neglect the other rivers. If we
believe, that God is in one river, He surely also exists in any
other river.
If we keep the environment clean, we
automatically also keep other rivers clean.
If someone misuses the Ganga for throwing
waste and all kinds of rubbish into it, how can the same person
claim to have faith in this holy river?
If an individual has got the habit to keep
his house and surroundings clean, he will certainly also keep the
Ganga clean.
If the great Slogan "Cleanliness is
next to Godliness" is being taken seriously, then how one can
think of doing anything wrong to this holy river?!
If our Heart is clean, we surely will keep
Ganga and everything clean.
If our thinking, feeling and actions are
wise, good and clean, we will definitely react, if something is
not alright in and at the river Ganga.
It is clear, that it is not a one man's
task to be responsible for everything at the river Ganga.
In many cases it is lack of knowledge and
carelessness, which makes people ignoring the pollution, which is
drastically increasing day by day.
Proper awareness through Media and basic
environmental teachings in Schools and other places, are very
essential.
No doubt, a major factor lies in the hands
of the Administration, who has the power and the facilities to act
accordingly.
The thinking: "Why shall I
care, when the other is not caring?" is totally
misplaced and has to be changed. "OK, if the other is not
doing the right thing, let me do it!", is
the right and proper attitude! And if slowly, slowly more are
joining these ideals, Maa Ganga will certainly one day shine in
beautiful surroundings and will reward all those, who worked very
hard, to bring back the "Green Glory" of this majestic river,
which was and is worshipped by Millions of Devotees, greatest
Saints and Sages, who prayed and offered Their Gratitude to the
eternal flow of the Divine Grace through Maa Ganga.
